I’m such a nature girlie. If the weather’s good, you’ll find me lost on a trail
somewhere. It brings me so much joy! As I hike, I always notice the little
things—how the small creek carves its own path among the rocks, how the branches
sway with the wind instead of resisting and breaking, how the leaves know when to
change color, how one plant thrives under given conditions while its neighbor
withers away, how the tiny ant steadily makes its way home. These small details
might seem insignificant, but if you take the time to pause and observe, they’re
mesmerizing.
We all know that winter comes, and with it, the liveliness of the world fades
away, replaced by a kind of stillness. The rose bush that brought so much color and
joy dies away, buried under the snow. It seems like all hope is lost, as though there’s
no coming back. Each day, it tries to endure, but the harsh wind and below-freezing
temperatures deter it. Just when it seems like the end, the snow begins to melt, and
the sun starts to shine again. The world is renewed, and spring slowly arrives.
Opportunities for growth emerge. The rose bush regains its strength, glowing
by the time summer comes. The bees buzz, the birds sing, and all feels right with the
world. Then comes fall. The rose bush watches the leaves change color, learning that
there is beauty in change. It starts to prepare for the next winter but isn’t anxious like
the year before. The rose bush now knows that winter doesn’t last forever. No matter
how strong the cold winds blow or how heavily the snow falls, the sun will shine
again. It will live because it has a purpose despite the changes in His creation.
Just as we rely on the seasons to come as expected, we can fully
trust in God to remain the same—unmoving, loving, and constant and so are His promises.
Nature knows how to prepare for the seasons, and we need to prepare through prayer. We
are set apart as children of God, and we have a purpose in this unpredictable world.
We will face many seasons in this changing life, but I can say with full confidence that
Christ will always remain the only constant. He will stay by our side in this harsh and unpredictable
world. The Holy Spirit will be our companion, showing us the way forward and giving us the
strength to weather the cold winds and storms that may come our way. He will hold us in the palm
of His hand until He carries us home.
P.S. If you haven’t already, give Seasons by Benjamin William Hastings and Hillsong a listen—it’s
seriously underrated!
